Best furniture brands to flip, and how to find them on Facebook Marketplace

The best furniture brands to flip have named lines a buyer can look up, such as Room & Board, Crate & Barrel, Pottery Barn, RH, American Leather, Ethan Allen, Flexsteel and Stressless, plus Herman Miller and Steelcase for office chairs. Confirm the tag before you buy, and price from similar used listings, not the retail price.

The best furniture brands to flip are the ones buyers type into the Marketplace search bar. A brand name in your listing title gets your piece found, and it gives the buyer a model they can look up. That matters more than whether the brand is expensive new. This guide lists the brands worth searching for, how to confirm a piece is real, and how to set up a search for each.

Why does the brand matter on Facebook Marketplace?

A brand gives you two things a generic piece does not: buyers who search for it by name, and a price you can check. A buyer who wants a Room & Board sofa types "Room & Board". A listing titled "grey sofa" only shows up in broad searches, next to every other grey sofa.

The brand also makes your buy price easier to set. If you know the line, you can find similar used listings with the same name and see what they ask. Without a name, you are guessing.

Which furniture brands are worth flipping?

These brands have names and model lines that buyers can search for and look up. Treat the list as a place to start, not a guarantee. What sells in your area depends on who lives there, so check what similar listings ask near you before you buy.

Sofas and sectionals

Brand Notes What to search
Room & Board Models are named, so buyers can look them up "Room & Board", "Room and Board"
Crate & Barrel Named sofa lines, such as Lounge "Crate & Barrel", "Crate and Barrel", "Lounge sofa"
Pottery Barn Named lines, such as PB Comfort "Pottery Barn", "PB Comfort"
RH (Restoration Hardware) Named lines, such as Cloud "RH", "Restoration Hardware", "Cloud"
American Leather Made to order in Dallas, Texas, since 1990, per the company; known for the Comfort Sleeper "American Leather", "Comfort Sleeper"
Ethan Allen Says it makes about 75% of its products in its own North American workshops (Ethan Allen) "Ethan Allen"
Flexsteel Known for its Blue Steel Spring seat "Flexsteel"
Stressless Norwegian recliners and sofas made by Ekornes "Stressless", "Ekornes"
Thomasville Check the tag for the collection name "Thomasville"

Department store lines can work too, when the store gave the model a name. A sectional sold under a named collection at Macy's, for example, can be searched by that collection name. Search the model name on its own as well as with the store name.

In the UK, DFS is the name to add, together with "corner sofa", the phrase UK sellers use for an L-shaped sofa.

Solid wood pieces

Dressers, sideboards, dining sets and armoires sell on condition and wood. Older pieces from Ethan Allen, Thomasville, Bassett, Drexel, Henredon, Lane and Broyhill are worth a look when the drawers run straight and the veneer is intact. Mid-century pieces sell on style as much as brand, so search the style words too: "mid century", "MCM", "teak", "Art Deco".

Office chairs

Herman Miller and Steelcase chairs have model names that buyers use: "Aeron", "Embody", "Leap", "Gesture". The model name matters more than the brand here, so put it in both your search and your relisting title.

How do you check that a piece is the real brand?

Ask for a photo of the label before you drive. Sofas usually carry a tag under a seat cushion or on the underside. Case pieces usually have a stamp or label inside a drawer or on the back.

Then check the details:

  1. The tag names the maker, and often a model or style number you can search.
  2. The construction matches the brand. Heavy, solid frames, drawers that slide straight, and fabric or leather that matches the line's photos.
  3. The seller's story fits. "Bought it from the Crate & Barrel store in 2021" with a receipt or order email is better than "I think it's Pottery Barn".

No tag does not mean fake. Labels get cut off. But without one you cannot put the brand in your relisting title, so price the piece as unbranded.

Leave out the words that copycat listings use. Sellers often put a famous brand in the title to describe a look:

  • "style", "inspired", "dupe", "look alike", "similar to"
  • "cover", "covers only", "slipcover only"
  • "for parts", "broken"
  • "wanted", "ISO"
  • "financing", "rent to own", for stores posting new stock

A listing titled "RH Cloud style sectional" is not an RH Cloud. Furniture stores are not filtered out automatically, so leave out their words or skip their seller pages. For the reasoning behind left-out words, see excluded words on Facebook Marketplace.

How do you price a branded piece?

Price it from what similar used listings ask, not from the retail price. A sofa that cost a lot new does not resell at a fixed share of that. Compare the same brand, size and condition in your area, and remember that asking prices are where sellers start, not where they finish. Our guide to asking price vs sold comps covers the gap.

A simple buy rule for flips is to cap what you pay at 65% of the expected resale price. The rest pays for moving, cleaning, the days it sits with you, and your profit. Adjust the share if your costs are higher.

A branded sectional still needs a vehicle and a helper. If you cannot move it, the brand does not help you. See flipping heavy items for the logistics, and the buyer scams guide before you send any money.

How to search for furniture brands on Crawlbench

Set up one search per brand, or one search with a short list of brands and model names. Write it the way you would say it, for example "Room & Board or Crate & Barrel sofa under $900", and add the words to leave out from the list above. The words you ask for have to be in the listing's title, so include both spellings, such as "Crate & Barrel" and "Crate and Barrel".

Crawlbench checks each new Facebook Marketplace listing that matches against similar listings and sends you the ones that pass. You message the seller yourself, from your own account. The Day Pass gives you one search free for 24 hours, no credit card. Crawlbench covers Facebook Marketplace only and is not affiliated with Meta.

Questions

What furniture brands resell best on Facebook Marketplace?
Brands with a name and model a buyer can type into the search bar are the easiest to resell, because the brand in your title gets the listing found. Room & Board, Crate & Barrel, Pottery Barn, RH, American Leather, Ethan Allen and Stressless are common examples for sofas, and Herman Miller and Steelcase for office chairs. What sells best still depends on your area.
How do I tell if furniture is a real brand?
Ask for a photo of the label before you go. Sofas usually have a tag under a seat cushion or on the underside, and dressers a stamp inside a drawer or on the back. Check that the model name, construction and the seller's story match. No tag means you price it as unbranded.
Should I search for 'Restoration Hardware style' furniture?
Not if you want the real brand. Sellers use brand names to describe a look, so leave out words like style, inspired, dupe and look alike. A piece described as RH style is priced and resold as an unbranded piece.
How do I price branded used furniture?
Compare what similar used listings of the same brand, size and condition ask in your area, not what the piece cost new. Asking prices are where sellers start, so expect to sell after offers, and set your buy cap from the resale price you expect.
