Most advice on Marketplace timing is written for sellers. Buyers need a different answer: when do new listings actually go up, so you can see them while they are still available? The best time to buy on Facebook Marketplace is when new stock appears, and the evidence for when that is turns out to be thin. This guide sets out the one public listing sample we found, what car guides claim, and a buying routine that does not depend on guessing the hour.
When do sellers post on Facebook Marketplace?
Mostly during the day, in the one public sample that measured it. Facebook does not publish when listings are posted, and our own guide to the best time to post on Facebook Marketplace found no Marketplace data behind the usual seller advice.
An attributed sample: consoles in six Australian cities
Outpost Alerts counted 16,238 new console listings in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide and Canberra between 2 June and 2 October 2026, keeping only those where Facebook showed the posting time to the minute (Outpost Alerts, page dated 2 Oct 2026). Its hourly results:
| Window (local time) |
Share of new listings |
| Midnight to 6 am |
2% |
| 10 am to 6 pm |
59% |
| 1 pm to 2 pm (busiest hour) |
8.6% |
| 6 pm to 9 pm |
18.5% |
Limits: one category (consoles), one country, four months, and listings matched by one tool's users' searches. It is a useful sample, not a rule for cars in Texas or furniture in London. Crawlbench has not published its own hour-by-hour pull, so we do not quote one here.
What is the best day of the week to buy on Marketplace?
Weekends carried the most new listings in the same sample. Outpost reports Saturday at 16.9% and Sunday at 16.6% of the week's new listings, against about 13% on an average weekday:
| Day |
Share of new listings |
| Monday |
13.1% |
| Tuesday |
15.6% |
| Wednesday |
12.5% |
| Thursday |
13.0% |
| Friday |
12.2% |
| Saturday |
16.9% |
| Sunday |
16.6% |
Outpost itself says the Tuesday bump "may be specific to this sample, so we would not plan around it." The practical point: weekends bring the most new stock and the most free time for other buyers, while weekday listings arrive when many buyers are at work.
Is the best time to buy a car different from furniture?
The car guides do not agree with each other, and none we read publishes listing-time data for furniture.
Cars
CarSnipe's guide (CarSnipe, page dated 14 Apr 2026) gives two different quick answers on the same page:
- "Monday through Wednesday between 6pm and 9pm local time, when the highest volume of new private-seller listings is posted."
- "weekday evenings (6–10 PM) and weekend mornings (8 AM–12 PM)"
Further down, citing CarGurus' private-party listing activity data, it says "Saturday and Sunday see the highest volume of new listings" and that "Tuesday and Wednesday typically have the lowest new listing volume." Those claims cannot all be the best answer, which is a fair sign that nobody outside Facebook has strong car-listing timing data.
Furniture
Furniture tends to follow people's free time: moving weekends, the end of the month and spring clear-outs are common reasons to sell. We found no published hour or day figures for furniture listings, so treat any specific furniture timing claim with care. If you buy furniture, run the same test on your own searches for two weeks: note when each new listing you see was posted, and you will have a better answer for your city than any guide can give.
What buying routine works without perfect timing?
Check at the times that suit the evidence, and let saved searches or alerts cover the rest:
- Narrow the search first: item, price cap, area and the words you want to leave out.
- Sort by newest: sort by date listed, newest first, or use a recent-listings filter, so you see what went up since you last looked.
- Check twice a day: once in the early afternoon and once in the evening, which covers most new stock in the Outpost sample.
- Check more on weekends: more new listings and more buyers.
- Have your message ready: price, pickup time and your first question, so you can reply when something fits.
- Use saved searches or an alert tool for the hours you are not looking.
Where Crawlbench fits
Crawlbench watches a search on Facebook Marketplace and alerts you to each new listing that fits, by email, Telegram, Slack, Discord or the phone app, with a price check against similar listings. Each listing shows when it was posted on Marketplace and when it was found, so you can see when your category's listings appear. Our guide to monitoring Marketplace car deals covers the car version, and pricing lists the plans.
Best time to buy on Facebook Marketplace: the short version
Most new listings in the one public sample went up during the day, with weekends busiest, but that covers consoles in Australia only. Check midday and evening, sort by newest, and let saved searches or alerts cover the hours you are away.

Questions
- What is the best day to buy on Facebook Marketplace?
- Weekends usually bring the most new listings. In Outpost Alerts' sample of 16,238 console listings in six Australian cities, Saturday and Sunday each carried about 17% of the week's new listings, against about 13% on an average weekday. Weekends also bring the most competing buyers, so weekdays can still be worth checking.
- What time are most Marketplace items posted?
- In the only public sample with posting times we found, from Outpost Alerts, 59% of console listings in six Australian cities went up between 10 am and 6 pm local time, and the busiest hour was 1 to 2 pm. Facebook does not publish figures, and other categories and countries may differ.
- Is the weekend better for buying cars on Marketplace?
- Weekends tend to bring more new car listings and more buyers. CarSnipe, citing CarGurus private-party data, says Saturday and Sunday see the highest volume of new listings. Fewer cars appear midweek, but there is also less competition, so check daily rather than saving it all for the weekend.
